Cool or Warm? Why Your Undertone is Everything

Hi Colour Friend,

Let’s talk undertones—the not-so-secret sauce behind why some colours make you look radiant… and others make you wonder if you need more concealer (you don’t, by the way).

Your undertone is the base temperature of your colouring. And unlike a tan or your favourite hair dye, it doesn’t change. It’s part of your DNA.

💙 Cool undertones have a bluish-pink base💛 Warm undertones have a golden-yellow base

Why does this matter?

Because when your clothes match your undertone, you look fresher, brighter, and more awake. But when they clash? Your skin can look dull, your features flatten, and the outfit—even if it’s expensive—just feels “off.”

How can you spot undertones in clothes?

Cool colours usually have a blue base—think icy pinks, navy, cobalt, and crisp whites.Warm colours lean into yellow or golden bases—like coral, mustard, cream, and camel.

Most colours can be warm and cool, except orange. Orange is always warm

Not sure what I mean? Picture this:

💗 Icy pink (cool) = fresh, clean, and crisp🌺 Coral (warm) = glowy, golden, and vibrant

Same colour family—completely different effect depending on your undertone.

Now scroll back up to the picture of Kate again. Kate’s undertone is warm - which is the colours on the right. The left are cool colours and just do not harmonise with Kate at all.

Once you know your undertone, everything gets easier.Shopping becomes faster. Outfits mix and match better.

You stop wasting money on clothes that never feel quite right.
